Lichfield Canine Society Open Show 2017 Critique

Many thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge Deerhounds at their Open Show. The stewards were very helpful & kind to both myself & exhibitors.

PG (3.1)

1st.  Steele's Sorimsway Valiant Hero. This 2 yr old dog had a pleasing head & expression, small dark ears & correct bite. He had a strong neck into good shoulder & good bone. He had a decent depth of chest, well sprung ribs & a good fall away. I would have liked a little more angulation in the rear, he was slightly close behind going away; however he held his topline once settled & then moved with purpose.  RBOB

2nd.  Steele's Sorimsway Field of Poppies. This 2 yr old little bitch had a beautiful feminine head & lovely expression, nice dark ears & correct bite. She was a little narrow in the neck & slightly up right in the shoulder, but had good bone. She was a little unsettled on the day, but showed she could move well once she got into her stride. Not quite as mature as her brother.

O (5.2)

1st. Francis, Blatchford & Helps Beardswood Strahan at Peopleton. This handsome 2 yr old dog had a masculine head, without being course & a soft far away expression & correct bite. He had an impressive powerful neck into a good lay of shoulder. He had adequate angulation in front assembly & a good chest. He is slightly long cast, but has good strong hindquaters & was very well muscled. It was nice to see a dog shown in full coat. He covered the ground well & moved with purpose, easy active & true. He was definitely fit for purpose. BOB

2nd. Steele's Sorimsway Sweet Victory. This 2 yr old bitch had a dainty feminine head & lovely expression, neat ears & correct bite. She is very shapely with a good top line & lovely fall away. Very nice in profile. It is a shame as on the day she was a little unsettled & did not move to her full potential & therefore did not move as well as 1st.
